ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Forward Gabriela Pelogi (Fr., Federal Way, WA) scored in the 73rd minute, leading Western Washington University to 1-0 victory over Central Washington University, in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference contest.
The Vikings, ranked No. 2 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America NCAA Division II Top 25 Poll, improved to 12-1-0 overall and perfect in the GNAC at 7-0-0, with their 10th consecutive victory. CWU fell to 4-8-0 overall, and 2-5-0 in the GNAC.
The WWU goal came when Savanna Moorehouse (Sr., Bonney Lake, WA) received the ball in the box, and after getting her shot blocked, managed to poke the ball over to Pelogi who finished the goal with one touch past the keeper from six yards out.
"I was very happy with the result, it was a hard fought match," said Western coach Travis Connell. "Central played a great game, we had to earn the victory through hard play, good execution, and a little good fortune."
This was the Vikings second victory over CWU in as many weeks, WWU rallied to a 2-1 overtime victory at home over the Wildcats last Thursday. Pelogi and Moorehouse have been very strong against CWU, recording all three Western goals against the Wildcats.
"Savanna and Gabby played well in both matches," Connell said. "Every team needs leaders that can step up and inspire, and Savanna's hard work really has created many opportunities for us."
The Vikings host NCAA II No. 19 ranked Seattle Pacific on Saturday (7 p.m.).
