Oct. 6, 2015 Dixie State Invitational - Final Results
HURRICANE, Utah --- Western Washington University moved up two spots in second-round play Tuesday, finishing tied for fourth at the Dixie State University Women's Golf Invitational Tournament on Monday at Sand Hollow Golf Course.
The Vikings shot a 24-over 312 in the final round, finishing with a 46-over 622, tied with Chico State and Cal Baptist in the 13-team field.
"I thought we played a bit poorly today, but we beat some good teams, and that will benefit us," said WWU coach Bo Stephan. "It's just frustrating when you're only a few shots out of second and didn't play your best golf."
Point Loma won the team championship with a 33-over-par 609, shooting a 19-over 607 in the final round. Sonoma State was second at 619 (313), just three shots ahead of the Vikings, and Cal State Monterey Bay was third at 621 (318).
Jenn Paul (So., Bellingham) was Western's top finisher, shooting a final-round 76 to finish tied for ninth at 8-over par 152.
Audrey Orem (Jr., Bellingham) was tied for 16th at 154 (76).
Stephanie Sewell (Fr., Kent/Kentridge) was tied for 38th at 161 (79), Brooke Branigan (Jr., Bellingham) tied for 45th at 163 (89), and Kristen Hansen (Sr., Spokane/Mead) 53rd with 166 (81).
"It was a challenging course," Stephan said. "It was much tougher than what we faced in Phoenix two weeks ago."
Johany Rivera of St. Edward's earned medalist honors, shooting 72 in both rounds to finish at even-par 144.
The Vikings play host to the WWU Invitational on Oct. 12-13 at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club.
