MOUNT VERNON, Wash. - Western Washington University forward Jeffrey Parker scored 23 points to lead five Vikings in double figures in scoring in a 115-71 victory over Multnomah Saturday afternoon in a non-conference game at Skagit Valley Community College.
The Vikings improved to 3-1 overall in the young season. The game did not count towards the standings for the NAIA Multnomah Lions.
Parker (Jr., Richmond, CA/Salesian) was 9-for-16 from the floor, with 6 of his 7 misses from three-point range. The junior is the Vikings leading scorer through four games averaging 19.8 points per game while shooting 48.3% from the field.
Also recording double-digits in scoring was senior guard Ricardo Maxwell (Cincinnati, OH/Withrow/Edmonds CC) with 18 points and 5 assists, senior center Mac Johnson (Spokane, WA/Gonzaga Prep/Mount Hood CC) with 17 points and 6 rebounds, senior guard Kyle Impero (Everson, WA/Nooksack Valley/Whatcom CC) with 16 points and senior center Blake Bowen (Vancouver, WA/Skyview/Clark CC) with 15 points in 11 minutes of action.
The Vikings held a 52-35 lead at halftime, with Johnson scoring all of his points during the first half (6-for-9 shooting).
WWU nearly doubled up the Lions with a 63-36 advantage in the second half, while resting many of the starters. Bowen scored 13 of his 15 points in the second half while Parker was 5-for-7 shooting with 12 points.
The Vikings return to action next week with a pair of home games. They host BYU Hawaii Wednesday at 7 pm and Flagler Friday at 7 pm at Whatcom Pavilion.
Game Notes: The 115 points were the most by a Vikings squad since a 140-88 win over Multnomah in 2013-14...Kyle Impero is averaging 18.3 points per game and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game through 4 games...the Vikings were 6-for-25 (.250) from three-point range after entering the game hitting at a .446 clip (29-for-65)...12 different players saw action in today's game, with each player scoring at least 2 points...Vikings were 21-for-24 (87.5%) from the free throw line.
