MONTEREY, Calif. - Western Washington University dropped one spot and finished seventh among 12 teams at the Cal State University Monterey Bay Otter Women's Golf Invitational which finished Tuesday, March 24, at the Black Horse Golf Course.
WWU shot a final-round 324 for a 36-hole total of 647.
The Vikings, who placed among the top three in four tournaments last fall, were eighth in their first spring competition six weeks ago.
"It's been disappointing and frustrating," said WWU coach Bo Stephan (10th year) of the team's first two spring tourneys. "We've been working hard on the practice range, but it's not translating to the golf course. We need to get it going by our next two competitions."
Nova Southeastern FL, which trailed by two strokes following Monday's opening round, shot 304 to win by 10 shots at 607. Dallas Baptist TX was second at 617 (309-308).
First-round leader and host CSUMB (301-326) and Academy of Art CA (309-318) tied for third at 627.
WWU's Jenn Paul (Fr., Bellingham) (80) and Audrey Orem (So., Bellingham) (79) tied for 21st in medalist play at 159.
The Vikings' Kristen Hansen (Jr., Spokane/Mead) tied for 32nd at 164 (82), Anna Bourland (Sr., Bainbridge) tied for 44th at 169 (83) and Brooke Branigan (So., Bellingham) tied for 48th at 170.
Taking medalist honors at 4-over par 148 (74-74) was Nova Southeastern's Mailen Domec Chantry. Tying for second at 150 were Sydney Williams (76-74) of Dallas Baptist and Linda Brown (78-72) of Cal State East Bay.
WWU competes at the Western New Mexico Spring Invitational on Apr. 3-4 at Goodyear, Ari., and at the Sonoma State West Region Preview on Apr. 6-7 at Rohnert Park, Calif.
