PORTLAND, Ore. - For the seventh year in a row, Western Washington University is the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Sports Champion according to final official figures for the 2014-15 season released by the conference office on Friday, May 15.
The Vikings tallied 188 points in winning their 11th overall GNAC all-sports title in 14 seasons.
WWU also extended its title streak in the men's all-sports standings to seven and to five in the women's all-sports standings, netting 81 and 107 points, respectively.
"Winning the GNAC All-Sports title is one of our goals each year," said WWU Director of Athletics Steve Card. "The most rewarding part of this achievement is that it is a collective effort of all of our student athletes, coaches, and staff."
The Vikings outpointed runner-up Alaska Anchorage by 31 points to win the overall title. UAA netted 157 points, three more than Simon Fraser and 12 more than Central Washington.
WWU outscored Simon Fraser 81-75 for the men's title and Alaska Anchorage 107-88 for the women's crown. UAA finished third in the men's all-sports race with 69 points and Seattle Pacific was third in the women's race with 86 points.
Nine different GNAC schools won championships led by Alaska Anchorage (men's cross country, men's indoor track, women's basketball), Seattle Pacific (men's soccer, women's indoor track, women's outdoor track) and WWU (women's soccer, women's golf, men's outdoor track) with three each.
Simon Fraser (women's cross country, men's golf) won two. Northwest Nazarene (volleyball), Western Oregon (men's basketball), Saint Martin's (softball), Montana State Billings (baseball) and affiliate member Azusa Pacific (football) each won one.
In addition, Seattle Pacific (women's soccer, men's basketball), Alaska Anchorage (women's basketball), Montana State Billings (softball) and Western Oregon (baseball) won post-season team tournament championships.
