BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Forward Catherine Miles (Sr., Anacortes) scored the game's first two goals as Western Washington University defeated University of Victoria, 3-2, in a women's soccer exhibition contest on Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Harrington Field on the WWU campus.
Miles gave the Vikings a 1-0 lead in the fifth minute, scoring on a rebound from five yards out after a shot by Savanna Moorehouse (Sr., Bonney Lake) was blocked. In the 22nd minute, Miles headed in a corner kick by Stephanie Hamilton (Sr., Orting Bellarmine Prep).
Victoria cut the lead to 2-1 in the 41st minute when Emma Greig stole the ball and tapped it into the lower left corner of the net.
WWU made it 3-1 two minutes into the second half as Elise Aylward (Jr., Renton/Lindbergh) scored unassisted.
Victoria again got to within one, 3-2, in the 73rd minute, Caitlin Milham scoring from seven yards on a through ball from Greig.
The Vikings host University of British Columbia in an exhibition on Saturday, Aug. 29 (3:30 p.m.).
