Sept. 17, 2015 BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Retiring Western Washington University sports information director
Paul Madison was named the second recipient of the
Lynda Goodrich Legacy Award. The announcement was made Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, at the 26th Annual Key Bank Viking Night Dinner and Auction held at the Viking Union Building on the WWU campus.
Madison was selected for exhibiting the attributes of passion, strength, courage and leadership personified by Goodrich during her 25 years as WWU athletics director. Goodrich also coached women's basketball 19 seasons for the Vikings.
"To receive an award from Western Washington University, and in particular the Athletics Department, that was named after a legend like Lynda Goodrich and whose first recipient was Jo Metzger Levin, arguably the finest women's basketball player in school history, I am both humbled and honored," said Madison.
Madison has served 48 years as SID at WWU, being a 2011 inductee into the College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Hall of Fame. He received the WWU President's Exceptional Effort Award in 2010 and was the 1993 recipient of the Ike Pearson Award given by the NAIA-SIDA.
The 67-year-old Madison received a bachelor's degree in journalism at WWU in 1971. He is retiring on Sept. 30, but will return in a part-time role as WWU Athletics Historian.
