OLYMPIA, Wash. - The Western Washington University women's golf team is in third place after the first round of the Saint Martin's Invitational played Friday afternoon at Olympia Golf & Country Club.
The Vikings turned in a 35-over-par 327 and are four shots back of tournament co-leaders Simon Fraser and Concordia (OR) heading into tomorrow's final round. WWU will start teeing off in the final round at 11:30 am.
Junior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) is in a tie for 4th place aft er shooting a first-round 79 (+6) on the par 73 layout. Sophomore Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) is tied for 6th in the 65-player field turning in a 7-over-par 80.
"Overall it was a very tough day for the entire field," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We didn't play our best, but we are right there within striking distance for tomorrow."
Following tomorrow's final round in Olympia, the Vikings return to Bellingham to host the WWU Invitational Monday and Tuesday at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
