Feb. 29, 2016 BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Western Washington University student athletes Lynsey Amundson (Softball), Miranda Osadchey (Indoor Track & Field) and Jenn Paul (Women's Golf) have been selected as Great Northwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in their respective sports for the period of Feb. 22-28.
Amundson (Jr., Arlington, WA) hit .500 (7-for-14) in four games vs. Simon Fraser (3-1 record) to open GNAC play for the Vikings. The catcher recorded 6 RBI in the 4 games, including 5 two-out RBI, and went 5-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Her hot week at the plate raised her season batting average from .267 to .379.
Osadchey (Jr., DuPont, WA/Steilacoom) set the WWU Indoor record clearing 1.74m (5' 8.5") in the high jump at the SPU Indoor Qualifier. She bettered the old school mark of 1.73m (5' 8") by Brittany Grandy in 2012. Osadchey's jump is also tied for the 4th-best mark in GNAC history (record is 1.77m/5' 9.75"). Her school-record jump is 2nd-best in NCAA II this season, trailing just 1.76m (5' 9.25") by Emilee Iverson of Pittsburg State.
Paul (So., Bellingham, WA) tied for 8th in the 80-player field at the St. Edward's Invitational last week in Austin, Texas (Onion Creek Club) last week. She finished with a 36-hole total of 11-over-par 151 (par 70). Paul has finished in the top 10 in all four of her tournaments in 2015-16 and leads the team with a scoring average of 75.38 in 8 rounds this season (average of 3.63 over par). This is the sixth GNAC Golfer of the Week honor for Paul, also earning the award Oct. 19-25 in the fall season.
Also nominated for GNAC Player of the Week honors were Taylor Peacocke (Women's Basketball), Trey Drechsel (Men's Basketball) and Makinlee Sellevold (Softball - Pitcher).
