BELLINGHAM, Wash. - University of Alaska senior forward Travante Williams scored a game-high 29 points to lead the Nanooks to a 14-point 78-64 victory over Western Washington Saturday evening in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference men's basketball game at Whatcom Pavilion.
After entering the week with a four-game winning streak, the Vikings were swept at home by the Alaska schools to fall to 14-9 overall and 8-6 in GNAC play. Alaska improves to 16-6 overall and 10-4 in league play.

"This was probably the most disjointed game I've been a part of in 21 years," said head coach Tony Dominguez. "This was a very poor performance. I am kind of shocked. We didn't look good tonight, and I'm disappointed. We just have to go back and regroup."
Senior point guard Ricardo Maxwell (Cincinnati, OH/Withrow/Edmonds CC) led the Vikings with 16 points and 5 assists. No other Western player scored in double digits.
Williams, a transfer from Adams State, entered the game averaging 17.6 points per game. In two games vs. WWU this season he scored 64 points. Also scoring in double-digits for the Nanooks was Almir Hadzisehovic (13 points), Joe Slocum (10 points) and Brandon Davis (10 points). UAF shot 55.4% from the field (31-for-56).
WWU led 20-19, with 8 minutes left in first half, following a 7-0 run. Alaska answered with a 12-3 run of their own and led rest of the way. After leading 42-31 at the half, Alaska grew their lead to as many as 23 points late in the second half (70-47).
The Vikings (14-9, 8-6 GNAC) return to the road next week to face nationally ranked Western Oregon (Thursday, 7 pm) and Concordia (Saturday, 7 pm).
