BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Four student-athletes, who all made exceptional contributions to their respective sports, make up the Western Washington University Athletics Hall of Fame class of 2016. The formal induction ceremony, free to the public, takes place Saturday, May 14, at 1 p.m. in the Concert Hall of the Performing Arts Center on the WWU campus.
The foursome includes:
- Harold Doyal (Basketball ?oe Forward) - Went on to play 12 seasons professionally overseas.
- Devin Kemper (Track & Field ?oe Middle Distance) - Placed 2nd in 800m at nationals in 1999.
- Chris Nicholl (Football ?oe Wide Receiver) - First player in school history to record back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons.
- Wendy Wefer-Clinton (Volleyball ?oe Outside Hitter) - Vikings top player in the first 25 years of the program.
All four were named to WWU's respective All-Century teams in 1999.
The WWU Athletics Hall of Fame began in 1968 and is the oldest among all Pacific Northwest colleges and universities. The four inductees bring the hall's membership to 136 [complete list].

HAROLD DOYAL Men's Basketball (Forward)
Doyal had a stellar four-year career for the Vikings and played for over a decade professionally overseas in France, Japan, Spain and Taiwan.
The 6-foot-9 Doyal finished his four years at WWU, second in career scoring with 1,571 points and third in both rebounds with 657 and blocked shots with 127. He earned honorable mention on WWU's All-Century (1900-1999) basketball team.
Doyal averaged a team-leading 17.8 points as a senior in 1994-95, earning NAIA Division I All-America honorable mention, second-team Little All-Northwest and first-team Pacific Northwest Athletic Conference all-star honors.
As a junior in 1993-94, he helped the Vikings to a regional championship and the national tournament, receiving Little All-Northwest honorable mention and first-team all-region accolades.
During his professional career, Doyal was the French Pro A All-Star Game Slam Dunk Contest winner in 1999 and was first-team Pro B. He played in the Spanish LEB League All-Star Game in 2000 and was runner-up in the dunk contest that year. Doyal competed on a French Pro A championship team in 2001 and a French Pro B title-winning squad in 2004. His Spanish LEB team reached the Cup semifinals in 2007 and the Silver play-off semifinals in 2009.
Doyal averaged double-figure scoring in 11 of his 12 professional campaigns with a high of 20.1 points.
A graduate of Interlake High School in Bellevue, Wash., Doyal averaged 17.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 5.5 blocked shots as a senior for the Saints.
Doyal, 42, is currently an insurance underwriter for the Breckenridge Insurance Company based in Atlanta, Georgia. He majored in social sciences at WWU and has two children, daughter Mckenah 19 and son Rashard 12.

DEVIN KEMPER Men's Track & Field (Middle Distance)
Kemper holds school records in the 800 (1:49.84) and 1,500 (3:46.44) meters, both established in 2000. In 1999, he broke WWU's mile standard (4:11.50) that had stood for 32 years.
As a WWU senior in 2000, Kemper placed fourth in the 800 and seventh in the 1500 at the NCAA Division II National Championships, earning All-America honors in both events.
As a junior in 1999, Kemper received All-America recognition as he placed second in the 800 at nationals. His time was less than a second behind the national champion.
Kemper, who also reached nationals as a freshman in the 800 and as a sophomore in the 4x800 relay, was a PacWest Conference All-Star in 2000 and won 10 of 11 regular season races in 1999. He also received WWU All-Century recognition.
A three-year letter winner from Gig Harbor, Wash., where he graduated from Gig Harbor High School, the 37-year-old Kemper majored in business administration and management information systems at WWU.
A web developer for Essence, a digital media agency in Seattle, Kemper is married to the former Molly Pym. They have two children, Gus 4 and Teagan 2.

CHRIS NICHOLL Football (Wide Receiver)
Nicholl, the first player in school history to have back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in pass receiving yards, finished his four-year career with school records in touchdown catches (30), receptions (170) and receiving yards (3,268). He is a member of the WWU's All-Century team.
As a senior in 1996, Nicholl caught 82 passes for 1,584 yards and 12 touchdowns, all WWU records, helping the Vikings to the NAIA Division II championship game and an 11-2-0 record which included a 28-21 win at No.1-ranked and defending national champion Findlay OH in the semifinals.
Nicholl was a first-team NAIA All-American, Columbia Football Association Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team Little All-Northwest pick, playing in the 1997 Snow Bowl, the unofficial NCAA Division II All-Star game.
As a junior in 1995, Nicholl earned NAIA All-American honorable mention and first-team all-CFA recognition, catching 52 passes for 1,064 yards (school record 20.5 yards per reception) and 11 touchdowns. That team finished 9-1-0, the Vikings going undefeated in regular-season play for only the second time in school history and the first since 1938.
During one stretch, Nicholl had a school and conference record 11 straight 100-yard receiving games, including the first eight contests of 1996.
Following graduation from WWU with a degree in sociology, Nicholl played one year professionally in the German Football League for the Dusseldorf Panthers. He was in software consultation sales for 15 years and is now working as a consultant in digital media.
The 43-year-old Nicholl is a 1991 graduate of Mercer Island High School where he earned all-state honors.
Nicholl has two children, Davis (9) and Tyler (6). His father, Dick, was a football running back at Western in the early 1960s.

WENDY WEFER-CLINTON Volleyball (Outside Hitter)
A member of the WWU All-Century team, Wefer-Clinton was the school's top volleyball player for the first quarter century of the sport. A four-year letter winner, she had two two-season stints with five years in between.
The team captain in 1980, Wefer-Clinton averaged 4.0 kills per set as an outside hitter in leading the Vikings to a 26-13 record and the championship match of the Northwest College Women's Sports Association-Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Region IX Tournament, earning first-team all-tournament honors in WWU's best season prior to 1990.
Wefer-Clinton was a second-team Interstate League all-star in 1980 after receiving first-team honors in 1979. She also helped WWU to regional appearances in 1973 and 1974.
Following graduation, Wefer-Clinton was a United States Volleyball Association Evergreen Region AA all-star in 1980, 1981 and 1982. In 1984, she competed on a team that reached the USVBA National Open Championship Tournament.
After earning a degree in business administration with a focus on human resource management from the University of Washington, Wefer-Clinton worked in the human resources field for nearly 30 years in both the private and public sector before retiring in 2014 after 23 years as the Employee Relations Manager for the Whatcom County government.
A graduate of Sehome High School in Bellingham, she is married to Paul Clinton, who coached volleyball at Western for four seasons from 1979 to 1982.
