STOCKTON, Calif. -- The Western Washington University women's golf team is in a tie for 5th place after the second round of the 2016 NCAA Division II West/South Central Regional played Monday at Brookside Country Club.

The Vikings slipped from 2nd place after the first round and are in a tie for 5th heading into tomorrow's final round in Stockton. WWU combined for a 12-over-par 300 on the Par 72, 5,931-yard layout, 5 shots behind the opening round score of 295. Overall the Vikings are 19 over par through the first 36 holes of the 54-hole tournament.

Tarleton State leads the 12-team regional at 6-over-par (582), with West Texas A&M (+8, 584) and Sonoma State (+12, 588) close behind. The top three teams along with the top three individuals not with a team from each super regional will advance to the 2016 NCAA Championships held May 18-21, at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado.

Freshman Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) continues to lead the way for the Vikings after turning in another solid round of 1-over-par 73 Tuesday. She fired an even-par round of 72 Monday, and heads into the final round tied for 7th place at 1-over-par 145 for the tournament.

Sophomore Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) and senior Kristen Hansen (Spokane, WA/Mead) are tied for 24th in the 66-player field with matching two-day totals of 5-over-par 149 (75-74).

"Today wasn't a lot different than yesterday, we just didn't score well and didn't convert as many birdies," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We were close on some hole, and really battled out there, but at the end of the day we are still right in the hunt and excited for the challenge that will be presented to us tomorrow."

Sydney Williams (Dallas Baptist), Isabell Jimenez Perea (Tarleton State) and Ana Sofia Benavides (St. Edward's) are in a three-way tie for individual medalist honors at 4-under-par 140 for the tournament.

The Vikings will tee off starting at 8:30 am on the first hole at Brookside. Live results can be tracked throughout the tournament via GolfStat.
