STOCKTON, Calif. - The Western Washington University women's golf team had its season come to an end finishing in 9th place at the 2016 NCAA II West/South Central Regional at Brookside Country Club.

The Vikings were in 2nd place after the first round, but slipped to a tie for 5th after the second round and ultimately wound up in 9th place in the 12-team field. WWU shot a 28-over-par (316) today, after posting 295 (+7) and 300 (+12) the first two rounds of the tournament.

Freshman Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) finished tied for 18th in the 66-player field, posting a three-round total of 7-over-par 223. Drake, playing in just her fifth tournament this season, shot even-par 72 in the first round, 1-over-par 73 in the second round and posted a 6-over-par 78 today.

"It was a disappointing end to a very solid season," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We started out well Monday, but just could not put it together the last two days. We gained a lot of experience at the regional level that the team will be able to build on next year."

Senior Kristen Hansen (Spokane, WA/Mead) tied for 27th for the Vikings, tying Drake with a 78 in the final round. Sophomore Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) tied for 40th with a three-round score of 231. Junior Brooke Branigan (Bellingham, WA) shot 78 in the final round to tie for 48th place and junior Audrey Orem (Bellingham, WA) finished the tournament at 243.

Tartleton State took first place, with a team score of 876 (+12). They will be joined by Dallas Baptist (886, +22) and West Texas A&M (890, +26) in the NCAA II National Championships held May 18-21 at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora, Colorado. Tarleton State's Isabell Jimenez Perea was the medalist for the tournament, shooting 6-under-par 210 over the three rounds. California Baptist's Erica Wang, Oklahoma Christian's Audrey Meisch and Academy of Art's Sterling Hawkins will each compete at nationals as individuals.
