The Male and Female Athletes of the Year will have their names added to the G Robert Ross Memorial Trophy honoring the top athletes that have participated for WWU.

Donigian (Mission Viejo, CA/Trabuco Hills/Saddleback JC/Northern Colorado) earned the honor of being named WWU's Male Athlete of the Year for the second consecutive season. In his senior season Donigian repeated as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference champion in the 100m and 200m, capping his career with nine individual GNAC titles (4 outdoor, 5 indoor). He placed 10th in both the 100m and 200m at the 2016 NCAA II Outdoor Track & Field Championships to earn second-team USTFCCCA All-America honors. He leaves WWU as the program record holder in the 100m and 200m during the outdoor season and the 60m and 200m during the indoor season.

Nilles (Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap) helped lead the WWU women's soccer team to the NCAA II Final Four and became just the second first-team All-American in program history. She was also named first-team All-GNAC and was voted as the GNAC Defender of the Year. During her four seasons with the Vikings Nilles appeared in 87 career games and helped lead WWU to a 76-9-6 record.

Drake (Sandy, OR) earned her second WWU Female Athlete of the Year award after earning the distinction in 2014. The junior placed 2nd in the NCAA II Championships in the Javelin with a school and GNAC record throw of 54.18m/177-9. She also earned GNAC All-Star honors placing 2nd in the conference championships and was a GNAC and CoSIDA Academic District VIII selection. Drake will compete in the US Olympic Trials July 1-10 in Eugene, Oregon.

Reichert (Longview, WA/Kelso) placed 3rd in the NCAA II Championships in the Javelin right behind Drake, recording a personal-best throw of 54.03m/177-3. She earned first-team USTFCCA All-America honors for the third time in her career and was also the GNAC champion. She will join Drake at the US Olympic Trials in Eugene after passing the 54.00m standard in her final throw at the NCAA Championship.

Stapp (Bellingham, WA/Mt. Baker) has maintained a 3.86 GPA as an accounting major and is one of the leading forces on the WWU Rowing Varsity 8 that placed third in the nation during the NCAA II Rowing Championships last week in Gold River, California. Stapp was named a College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) scholar athlete.

Guenther (Vancouver, WA/Prairie) carries a 3.90 GPA as a communications sciences major while also earning All-America status during the cross country season. As a senior she placed 26th at the NCAA II Cross Country Championships to earn first-team All-America honors and was one of WWU's top distance runners during the indoor and outdoor Track & Field seasons.

Seely (Spokane, WA/Central Valley) will graduate next week carrying a GPA of 3.60 as a plastics and composite engineering major. He was the GNAC Champion during the outdoor championship in the Triple Jump and placed 2nd during the indoor season. He leaves WWU as the indoor record holder in the Triple Jump (14.41m/47-3.5) and 2nd in outdoor (14.65m/48-0.75). He is also a two-time selection to the GNAC Track & Field Academic team.
