Aug. 23, 2016

Box Score

LANGLEY, B.C. - The Western Washington University women's soccer team dropped an exhibition match 2-0 Tuesday evening against Trinity Western University at Chase Office Field.

The Vikings are 0-2 in the preseason after dropping their exhibition opener 4-2 against Fraser Valley on Aug. 17. Tonight's game does not count towards the 2016 season record or statistics. WWU officially opens the 2016 season September 1 at No. 24 Sonoma State. WWU is ranked No. 3 in the preseason National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll.

TWU, which beat Division I Seattle University 2-0 and tied Washington 0-0, scored goals at 42:09 (Kathleen Chin) and 76.07 (Taylor Bubnick) en route to the victory to improve to 3-0-2 in its preseason matches.

WWU junior goalie Ashley Homer (Puyallup, WA/College of Saint Rose) recorded 7 saves in her 72:40 in the net for the Vikings.

The Vikings had their best scoring opportunity early in the second half when senior Caitlyn Jobanek (Springfield, OR/Thurston) almost got the equalizer in the 50th minute. Jobanek got space at the top left of the TWU box and sent a hard shot to the far post past the outstretched hand of the Spartans keeper, but the shot was just off the mark and went off the post.

The Vikings close out the preseason Friday with an exhibition match at the University of Victoria at 4 pm.
