SEATTLE, Wash. - A pair of NCAA Division II provisional qualifying efforts highlighted the first day of the UW Invitational for the Western Washington University track & field program at Dempsey Indoor Center on Friday.
Senior pole vaulter Gordie Kordas (Blaine, WA) posted a provisional qualifying mark by clearing 4.81m (15-9 ¼) in the pole vault to place 2nd in the event as of Friday's flight. He had the best height of any NCAA II competitor and his effort ranks tied for 6th on the WWU all-time indoor top 10 list.
Senior distance runner Andrew Wise (Denver, CO/East) finished 10th in the 5,000m with a provisional qualifying time of 14:39.59. The time ranks 3rd best on the WWU all-time indoor top 10 list. Friday's performance marked the second consecutive meet Wise has recorded a provisional qualifying time in an event after doing so in the 3,000m at the UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 14.
In addition to the new provisional marks set by Kordas and Wise, junior pole vaulter Anna Paradee (Tacoma, WA/Decatur) equaled her NCAA provisional qualifying performance from the season-opening UW Preview by placing 6th, as of Friday's flight, with a height of 3.68m (12-0 ¾).
The Vikings competed in 10 events on Friday and will continue competition with a full day of events set for Saturday. The two-day meet is the second indoor meet of the season for the Vikings. The UW Invitational features live results to follow throughout the meet.
