HURRICANE, Utah - Western Washington University junior Stephanie Sewell is tied for 13th place after the first round of the Dixie State Women's Golf Fall Invitational played Monday at Sand Hollow Golf Course. Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) carded a first-round score of 6-over-par 78 to sit seven-way tie for 13th place in the 56-player field.
Overall the Vikings are in 7th place in the 10-team tournament after turning in a first-round score of 34-over-par 322. Sonoma State leads the tournament at 15-over-par (303), followed closely by tournament host Dixie State (+16, 304) and Cal State Monterey Bay (+18, 306).
In addition to Sewell's top 20 performance, the freshman duo of Katelann Soth (Bonney Lake, WA/Kentwood) and Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) are tied for 24th at 8-over-par (80). Juniors Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) and Annie Leete (Oak Harbor, WA/Eastern Washington) round out the WWU contingent tied for 39th place at 12-over-par (84). The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 am MT. Western's golfers will be teeing off holes 12 (Sewell), 13 (Billeter), 14 (Soth), 15 (Drake) and 16 (Leete).
Following the trip to Utah, WWU will host its annual home tournament next week (Oct. 9-10) at Bellingham Golf & Country Club.
