Feb. 6, 2017 First Round Results 
SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Western Washington University women's golf team opened the spring schedule in 6th place in the 15-team PLNU Reach 2017 played Monday at Riverwalk Golf Club.
The Vikings and the rest of the field will have an 8 am shotgun start tomorrow for the final round of the 36-hole tournament.
WWU finished the first round at 37-over-par 325 on the 6,040 par 72 layout played on the Presidio and Mission layouts at Riverwalk.
Junior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) is in a tie for 10th place after firing a 6-over-par 78. Paul, the two-time GNAC co-Player of the Year, recorded 11 pars and a pair of birdies in her round.
Sophomore Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) also cracked the top 20 in the 76-player field with a 7-over-par 79.
"We had a slow start today and you could tell we were rusty," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We are going to work on a few things this afternoon and hope it translates to better play in tomorrow's final round."
California Baptist leads the 15-team field at 20-over-par 308, holding a 3-shot lead over Sonoma State and Academy of Art. Sterling Hawkins (Academy of Art) shot an even-par 72 to lead individual medalist honors through the first 18 holes.
WWU's spring schedule features four tournament before the GNAC Championships are held on April 24-25 at Coeur d'Alene Resort Golf Course in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Following the tournament in San Diego, WWU will next be in action March 6-7 at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo, California.
