VALLEJO, Calif. - The Western Washington University women's golf team finished in 6th place at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout hosted by Cal State East Bay Monday and Tuesday at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.

The Vikings recorded a 36-hole team score of 65-over-par 641 for the four counting scores in each round. WWU slipped from a tie for 5th place after the first round to finish 6th overall in the 14-team field. California Baptist ran away with the team title finishing at 12-over-par, 17 strokes better than second-place Sonoma State.

Junior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) recorded her 6th top 20 finish in seven tournaments this season, tying for 14th place in the 77-player field. Paul finished at 10-over-par for the tournament, carding rounds of 74 (+2) and 80 (+8) on the par 72 layout. In her 14 rounds this season, Paul has a scoring average of 78.21 (+6.00 relative to par).

Sophomore Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) finished in a tie for 22nd place at +14 for the 36-hole tournament (158) and sophomore Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) tied for 37th at +19 (163).

"We just could not get things going today and had a lot of big numbers on a very tough course," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We showed signs of turning it around, but just couldn't get the momentum. There are a few tournaments left before the GNAC Championships and we'll look to make improvements."

WWU will next be in action at the Otter Invitational hosted by Cal State Monterey Bay March 20-21 at Bayonet Golf Club in Seaside, California.
