Sept. 18, 2017 Tournament Results | Tuesday Tee Times/Pairings
DURANGO, Colo. - The Western Washington University women's golf team is in 18th place after the first round of the season-opening Skyhawk West Regional Preview played Monday at Hillcrest Golf Club.
The two-day, 36-hole tournament is hosted by Fort Lewis College and serves as a preview to the NCAA Division II West/South Central NCAA Super Regional that will be played May 7-9, 2018.
The Vikings sit in 18th place in the 20-team field, turning in a team total of 37-over-par 321 for the top four counting scores.
Senior Jenn Paul (Bellingham, WA) and juniors Hannah Drake (Pocatello, ID/Century) and Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) recorded matching scores of 9-over-par 80 on the par 71, 6,039-yard layout to sit in a tie for 58th-place in the 100-player field.
Paul, a three-time First Team All-GNAC selection, recorded 11 pars in her first round of the season and had a solid first nine making the turn at one-over-par. She was just 2-over-par through the first 12 holes, but had a tough finish shooting 7-over-par on the final six holes.
"I thought we had some nerves out there and put unneeded pressure on ourselves," said 13th-year head coach Bo Stephan. "I am hopeful for them to come out tomorrow, trust themselves, and play a good round of golf. Tomorrow is a new day and we just need to go out tomorrow and win the day and put today behind us."
Junior Annie Leete (Oak Harbor, WA/Eastern Washington) competed in her first event as a Viking turning in a 10-over-par 81 (T68th) and freshman Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) is in 96th place at 17-over-par.
Dallas Baptist owns a commanding team lead by 15 strokes after recording a first-round score of 1-over-par 285. DBU's Addison Mitchell opened with a 2-under-par 69 to lead individual medalist honors.
