First Round Results

JURUPA VALLEY, Calif. - The Western Washington University women's golf team is in 16^th place after the first day of The Lancer Joust hosted by California Baptist University at Goose Creek Golf Club.

WWU finished the first 18 holes of the 36-hole tournament at 40-over-par 328, placing 16^th in the 18-team field. The spring-opening tournament concludes Tuesday with the final round with a shotgun start at 8 am.

Freshman Megan Billeter (Spokane, WA/Mt. Spokane) led the Vikings contingent in a tie for 55^th place in the 96-player field at 9-over-par 81. Juniors Stephanie Sewell (Kent, WA/Kentridge) and Nicole Miller (Renton, WA/Kennedy/North Idaho College) are tied for 59^th place at 10-over-par.

"The whole team pretty much had identical rounds today, each putting up a big number, and unfortunately we made too many bogeys," said head coach Bo Stephan. "We are striking the ball well and I am confident we will figure it out, but today was a rough day."

Tournament host Cal Baptist leads the 18-team field with a team score of 6-over-par 294, leading second-place Cal State San Marcos by 7 strokes. CBU freshman Jocelyn Chee Yi Min carded a 2-under-par 70 to hold a one-stroke lead over Northeastern State's Sumie Francois heading into the final round.
