BELLINGHAM, Wash. - Eight Western Washington University track & field student-athletes have been recognized as U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-West Region honorees, announced Monday by the organization.
Individuals with a top-5 regional performance in each region for a USTFCCCA member school are honored as All-Region selections, along with top-3 relay teams in each region.
Senior Jasmine McMullin (Sequim, WA) earned All-Region honors in the triple jump and long jump to lead three WWU women recognized, winning conference titles in both events at the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Her GNAC and school record triple jump mark (12.68m/41-7 ¼) ranks No. 5 nationally and No. 1 in the region as an NCAA Division II automatic-qualifying effort. Her top long jump leap (5.73m/18-9 ¾) is a provisional-qualifying mark (tied for No. 27 nationally) as well as No. 5 in GNAC indoor history and No. 3 in WWU indoor history.
Pole vaulters Hannah Dodson (Fr., Seattle, WA/Nathan Hale) and Rachael Roberts (Jr., Woodinville, WA/Bellevue College) were each All-Region honorees as well for the WWU women. Both recorded personal-best marks during the season with Dodson's best performance (3.52m/11-6 ½) ranking No. 6 on the WWU indoor top-10 list and the top performance by Roberts (3.51m/11-6 ¼) ranking No. 7.
On the men's side, the Vikings had five honorees. Junior J.T. Konrad (Mead, WA/Mount Spokane), named the GNAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week on Monday, was honored in the pole vault. His indoor personal-best mark of 4.87m (15-11 ¾) ranks No. 5 in WWU indoor history and No. 8 in GNAC indoor history as an NCAA Division II provisional-qualifying mark.
Junior Tupre Wickliff (Vancouver, WA/Evergreen/Clark College), the GNAC indoor high jump champion, earned All-Region accolades as well. His personal-best mark of 2.01m (6-7) ranks No. 3 in WWU indoor history.
Sophomore Cordell Cummings (Arlington, WA) was recognized in the 60m hurdles (personal-best 8.35, No. 4 WWU indoor top 10) while sophomore Eric Hamel (Enumclaw, WA) was honored in the 5,000m with his personal-best time of 14:56.19 (No. 7 WWU indoor top 10). Junior Kyler Sager (Snohomish, WA/Everett CC) earned All-Region honors in the 800m with a personal-best time of 1:54.63 as the No. 2 on the WWU indoor top-10.
The indoor national championships will take place March 9-10 at the Robert W. Plaster Center in Pittsburg, Kansas. Official field announcements for the indoor championships will be made Tuesday afternoon. Prior to the indoor national championships, the Vikings start the outdoor season on Saturday by traveling to the University of Puget Sound Ed Boitano Invitational.
