BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Washington University women's rowing team will not compete this weekend at the Covered Bridge Regatta on Dexter Lake in Lowell, Oregon, as the annual regatta has been cancelled due to projected high winds and inclement weather.
The Vikings are currently ranked No. 4 in the second USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division II poll of the season, after being ranked No. 1 in the first poll. WWU has won 4 of 6 races in the first two regattas of the season at the PLU Invitational (March 10 in Lakewood, WA) and the Husky Open (March 31 on Montlake Cut). WWU now turns its attention to the Falcon Regatta next Saturday (April 14) where the Vikings will race against West Region rivals Central Oklahoma (currently No. 1 in the rankings) and No. 7 Seattle Pacific. The race is set to start at 8 am on the Lake Washington Ship Canal, with the starting line near Gas Works Park in Lake Union and the finish line behind Brougham Pavilion on the SPU campus. WWU is the defending NCAA II national champion after edging Central Oklahoma 17-16 last May.
