Vikings Fall to Cal Poly Pomona 86-65

Senior forward Trevor Jasinsky leads WWU with 24 points

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team was dealt an 86-65 defeat Tuesday evening against Cal Poly Pomona in non-conference action on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
 
The Vikings dropped to 1-2 on the season with the 21-point loss to the Broncos (2-1).
 
Senior forward Trevor Jasinsky led the Vikings with a game-high-tying 24 points, connecting on 5-of-16 shots (2-for-10 3FG) and going 12-for-15 from the free throw line. It marked the 19th career 20-point scoring performance for Jasinsky, who now has 1,129 career points to rank 19th in program history.
 
Sophomore forward Jalen Green added 10 points and 9 rebounds and senior center Logan Schilder grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.
 
The Vikings were limited to a 30.5% field goal percentage, going 16-for-52 overall and were 7-for-23 (30.4%) from 3-point range. The Vikings scored 26 of their 65 points from the free throw line, going 26-for-32 (81.3%). 
 
WWU recorded 20 turnovers in the game, including 11 in the first half that was a big factor in the 36-22 deficit at the break. Cal Poly Pomona scored 28 points off turnovers.
 
The Broncos were led by 24 points from guard William Christmas (6-for-14 FG, 12-for-12 FT) and 15 points from guard Riley Schaefer (6-for-12 FG). Overall CPP connected on 50.0% of their field goal attempts (28-for-56) and were 7-for-16 (43.8%) from 3-point range and nearly perfect at the charity stripe (23-for-24).
