PORTLAND, Ore. – Western Washington University senior pitcher Makinlee Sellevold recorded a 3-hit, complete-game victory to lead the Vikings to a 6-2 victory over Eastern Oregon Saturday afternoon at Porter Park in the Cavalier Classic.
Sellevold improved to 5-4 on the season and recorded her 48th career victory, tying the WWU all-time record joining Jackie Quint (2004-07) and Amanda Grant (2000-03) atop the pitching wins chart.
WWU out-hit the Mountaineers 11-3, with Jackie Lucido (2-for-4, R, 2B), Sellevold (2-for-3, R, 2B, BB) and Emily Benson (2-for-3, R, 2 RBI) all recording multi-hit games. Lucido and Paityn Cyr (1-for-3, 2B, 2 RBI) both extended their hitting streak to 10 consecutive games.
The Vikings jumped out to the early 2-0 lead scoring a pair of runs before an out was recorded. Benson delivered a 2-run single up the middle to score Mackenzie Palmer and Lucido.
EOU leveled the score 2-2 in the top of the 2nd inning when shortstop Ashley Kelly drove home a pair of runs with a triple to right field.
A pair of run-scoring doubles fueled a three-run bottom of the 3rd inning for the Vikings. Cyr plated a pair of runs with a double down the left field line, extending her hitting streak to 10 consecutive games. Senior shortstop Cylie Richards followed with a double to left-center field to bring home Cyr and extend the lead to 5-2.
Freshman catcher Rachel Christensen added another run with a two-out double to left-center field to score freshman third baseman Brooke Fesenbek.

The WWU softball program is in its 27th season, with the Vikings posting a winning record in 16 seasons and made four trips to the NCAA Division II Championships. WWU won the 1998 NAIA National Championship to record the school's first ever team national title. Over the last five seasons leading up to the 2019 season, the Vikings recorded a 135-104 (.565) record and won the 2017 GNAC Tournament to advance to the NCAA II West Regional in Monterey, California. In the first game of the regional, the No. 8-seed Vikings beat top-seed and regional host Cal State Monterey Bay for the program's first NCAA Championships victory. Head coach Sheryl Gilmore is in her first season at the helm of the program.
