Softball Closes Out Home Schedule

WWU hosts Western Oregon (Friday) and Concordia (Saturday) in GNAC doubleheaders

BELLINGHAM, Wash. -- The Western Washington University softball team closes out the home portion of the 2019 schedule this weekend, hosting a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference doubleheaders at Viking Field.

WWU entertains Western Oregon on Friday (1 & 3 pm) and Concordia on Saturday (12 & 2 pm) in the penultimate weekend of conference play. 

The Vikings are 24-13 overall and are in 2nd place in the GNAC with a 13-7 league record, one game ahead of both Western Oregon and Concordia in the standings. 

SENIOR DAY:
Saturday will be Senior Day at Viking Field, with Emily Benson, Shearyna Labasan, Cylie Richards and Makinlee Sellevold all playing their final home games in Bellingham. The foursome will be honored in a pregame ceremony on the field with family, friends and teammates.

STRIKEOUT CANCER:
Friday's games vs. Western Oregon will be the annual Strikeout Cancer game, with the Vikings wearing pink visors to help raise awareness for cancer research. Wear your pink when you come out to Viking Field to cheer on the Vikings and support a great cause.

200 HITS:
Senior Emily Benson recorded her 200th career hit in her last game April 9 vs. Simon Fraser, breaking the all-time program record. Benson is one of fewer than 25 players in conference history to record 200 hits in a career. 

HOME RUN RECORD NEXT FOR BENSON:
Senior Emily Benson has recorded 44 career home runs, one off the all-time GNAC record of 45 set by Western Oregon's Jessica Hallmark (2008-11). Benson has hit 13 home runs this season to lead the conference, breaking her own single-season record of 12 set in 2016 and 2017.

SELLEVOLD IN THE CIRCLE:
Senior Makinlee Sellevold is WWU's all-time winningest pitcher and ranks 4th in GNAC  history with 59 career wins. Sellevold is also 5th in GNAC history with 586.2 innings pitched and 14th with 364 strikeouts. 

WHAT REMAINS FOR THE VIKINGS:
Western has the four remaining home games this weekend, and then closes out the regular season with four games at Northwest Nazarene April 26-27 in Nampa, Idaho. Following the conclusion of the regular season, the top four teams in the GNAC standings advance to the conference championships  May 2-5 in Billings, Montana.
