BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University Director of Golf
Luke Bennett has announced that
Maya Nguyen has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Vikings.
Nguyen (pronounced win) is a native of Federal Way, Washington and product of Fife High School.
Her golf resume includes three appearances in the WIAA 2A State Championship, including a tie for 7
th-place finish following her sophomore season in 2018-19. She is a three-time 2A SPSL First Team All-Conference selection, and has placed in the top two in the conference tournament three times.
"I chose WWU because as soon as I stepped on campus I could envision myself being a student there," said Nguyen. "I love that the school is not too big, but not too small, so I feel like it's an environment I can thrive in.
Since I am going to be a student while being on the golf team, it's really great that I have Coach Bennett's support. He is a strong leader and has developed a solid program. Western is definitely the right university for me to achieve my academic and athletic goals."
During the summer golf circuit the right-handed swinger earned a top 25 finish at the WJGA Western Open Championship and tied for 18
th out of 30 golfers at the WJGA State Match Play. Nguyen calls Fairwood Golf & Country Club in Renton her home course.
"I have been really impressed with Maya's work ethic from the start of the recruiting process," said Bennett. "She is very disciplined and self-driven. I can't wait to have her up here to be part of our Viking golf family."
