PORTLAND, Ore. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team had four players selected to the 2019-20 Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team.
Senior guard
Lexie Bland led the Vikings four selections as a three-time honoree on the all-academic team. She is joined by two-time selections junior guard
Dani Iwami and junior forward
Kelsey Rogers, and sophomore guard
Avery Dykstra.
Bland, a senior kinesiology major out of Ellensburg, Wash., has maintained a 3.55 GPA in the classroom throughout her student-athlete career. On the court, she is a key part behind the Vikings 15-5 overall record and 9-3 mark in GNAC play. She is averaging 8.2 points, 3.3 assists and 1.4 steals per game. She becomes the seventh player in program history to earn three GNAC Academic All-Star awards in a career.
Iwami (3.62, Environmental Studies) and
Rogers (3.35, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies) have earned the award in both years they have been eligible, and
Dykstra (3.62, Business) was selected to the team in her first year eligible as a sophomore.
WWU's four selections were part of a group of 48 student-athletes named to the team, which honors excellence in the classroom while committing to the rigor of being part of a collegiate athletic program. Nominees must be of sophomore eligibility or greater, have a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.20 or greater, be a letterwinner on their team and must be in their second season at the nominating institution.
