Three Vikings Selected to All-GNAC MBB Team

Trevor Jasinsky becomes sixth WWU to become a two-time First Team All-GNAC selection

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team had three players selected to the 2019-20 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Men's Basketball All-Conference Team.

 

Senior forward Trevor Jasinsky led the way as a unanimous first-team selection, with redshirt freshman point guard D'Angelo Minnis and sophomore guard/forward Jalen Green earning honorable mention honors.

 

Jasinsky (Camas, WA) repeated as a first-team selection and became only the sixth WWU player in the 19-year history of the GNAC to earn two first-team All-GNAC honors. Jasinsky heads into the postseason leading the team averaging 14.4 points per game while scoring in double-digits in 23 of 28 games. The senior is also averaging 5.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.1 steals per game while ranking 3rd in the GNAC averaging 33.5 minutes per game.

 

During Jasinsky's career he has appeared in all 118 possible games, making 87 starts. He ranks 9th in WWU history (22nd in GNAC) with 1,479 career points and is 7th with 580 rebounds (26th in GNAC). He is one of only five players in program history to rank in the top 10 in both career points and rebounds.

 

Jasinsky joins Mike Palm (2002-03), Grant Dykstra (2005-06), Ira Graham (2008-09), Morris Anderson (2009-10) and Jeffrey Parker (2016-17) as the only two-time First Team All-GNAC selections in WWU men's basketball history.

 

Minnis (Covington, WA/Kentwood) has put up impressive numbers in his first collegiate season averaging 12.2 points and 3.1 assists per game. He is shooting 46.3% for the season (120-for-259) and ranks 18th in the GNAC shooting 39.2% (51-for-130) from 3-point range. Minnis has scored in double-digits in 17 of 27 games and is second on the team with six 20-point games.

 

Green (Renton, WA/Lindbergh) has filled up the stat sheet with averages of 13.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals per game. The sophomore has started 27 of 28 games, scoring in double-digits 20 times. He ranks among GNAC leaders in rebounding (11th), field goal pct. (15th, 50.4/136-for-270), free throw pct. (20th, 73.1/57-for-78), blocked shots (3rd, 1.5) and scoring (22nd).

 

GNAC CHAMPIONSHIPS UP NEXT

The Vikings finished the 2019-20 regular season with an 18-10 record and tied for 2nd in the GNAC standings with a 13-7 league mark. WWU gained the No. 2 seed and a quarterfinal bye via tiebreaker over Western Oregon. WWU will open the postseason on Friday at noon vs. the winner of the No. 3 Western Oregon vs. No. 6 Alaska Fairbanks quarterfinal that will be played at noon Thursday in Royal Brougham Pavilion in Seattle. All games during the 2020 GNAC Basketball Championships will stream live on GNAC.tv.

 

2019-20 GNAC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

The 2019-20 GNAC Men's Basketball All-Conference team featured 23 players, with six first-team, six second-team and 11 honorable mention selections. University of Alaska Fairbanks junior guard Shadeed Shabazz was selected as the Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year and co-Defensive Player of the Year. Seattle Pacific's Shaw Anderson was the Freshman of the year and third-year SPU head coach Grant Leep was selected as the Coach of the Year.
