BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University senior second baseman
Chantelle Shimabukuro earned a coveted spot on the 2022 Tournament of Champions All-Tournament Team.
Shimabukuro batted .706 (12-for-17) with three runs scored, three doubles, one triple and seven RBI in the five-game tournament. She was one of 11 position players selected to the All-Tournament Team with the Vikings going 3-2 in the tournament in Turlock, California that featured 25 teams.
In 33 games this season Shimabukuro leads the Vikings and ranks 3rd in the GNAC batting .424 (39-for-92) with six doubles, three triples, two home runs and 24 RBI. She is also listed 2nd in the GNAC with a .505 on-base percentage and 6th with a .620 slugging percentage.
Shimabukuro is riding a career-high 14-game hitting streak (.605, 26-for-43) and has reached base safely in 22 consecutive games to tie for the third-longest streak in WWU history. Over her last 19 games (since March 1), Shimabukuro is batting .556 (30-for-54) with 16 runs scored and 19 RBI.
The Vikings (20-15, 6-2 GNAC) return to GNAC play next weekend with a four-game series crossing the border to face Simon Fraser University (14-14, 5-7 GNAC) Saturday and Sunday at Beedie Field in Burnaby, BC (both noon starts).
