BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head basketball coach Carmen Dolfo has announced that guard Kaimyla Nolen has signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) joining the Vikings women's basketball program as a freshman in 2022-23.

Nolen is a defensive-minded guard that earned three varsity letters at Kentwood High School. The 5-7 guard was a three-time NPSL (North Puget Sound League) All-Defensive Team selection and selected as the SPSL (South Puget Sound League) Defensive Player of the Year at Foster High School as a freshman.

"Kaimyla fits our system very well as a defensive-minded player that also has potential to flourish on the offensive side of the court," said Dolfo. "She has shown the ability to be a lock-down defender, and that is something we commit to in our program. We are excited to add Kaimyla to our basketball family and look forward to her growth as a student-athlete at Western."

During her senior season at Kentwood in 2021-22 Nolen averaged 12.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.6 steals, 1.0 blocks and 4.8 assists per game. She was the top vote getter for the second consecutive season for the All-Defensive Team in the NPSL.

In addition to her four-year prep career, Nolen played for the ECBA Swish (2014-18) and the Tree of Hope (2018-21) club programs. Nolen also excelled as a student-athlete as a member of the National Honors Society.

"I knew I wanted to play for WWU since my first visit," said Nolen. "The coaching staff and players gave me such a great tour of campus and the facilities. When I went back for my second visit the team made me feel like family and I knew that WWU was where I was meant to be. There is no place like home!"

Nolen is the second new addition to the WWU program, joining Cameron transfer guard Stephanie Peterson. The Vikings will round out their 2022-23 recruiting class with another NLI announcement later this week.
