BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head men's basketball coach Tony Dominguez has announced that Jonathan Ned, a 6-foot-9, 220-pound post-player, is transferring from NCAA Division I University of Georgia to play for the Vikings beginning in 2022-23.

Ned will have two years of basketball eligibility remaining when he reports to campus in September.

"We are very excited to announce Jonathan as a member of our Basketball Family," Dominguez said. "He has a tremendous basketball resume that highlights his abilities and skill level. He also possesses great versatility on both ends of the court.

"As an older player he also will bring great leadership qualities that will enhance our team. Jonathan is a tireless worker who we believe will have an immediate impact on our campus and team culture."

Ned came to Georgia rated as the No.15 junior college recruit in the nation by 247Sports.com, as well as listed at No. 49 by jucorecruiting.com. He started 28 of 63 games played at Eastern Florida State College (Brevard County, Florida), averaging 9.7 points and recording 28 double-figure scoring games and five double-digit rebound performances.

Injuries caused Ned not to see action at Georgia last season. In 2020-21 he averaged 1.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game for the Bulldogs.

In 2019-20, Ned was a second-team All-Mid-Florida Conference selection as a sophomore at EFSC, averaging 9.6 points and 5.6 rebounds for the Titans that posted a 22-11 record.

As a freshman, Ned played in all 36 games for EFSU, averaging 9.8 points and 4.7 rebounds per game on a 28-8 team that won the conference title and an at-large berth in the NJCAA National Championship Tournament. The Titans won their first two games before falling in the quarterfinal round.

At Heritage High School in Brentwood, California, Ned helped the Patriots to a school record 71 wins during his three-year career, including a combined 56-8 mark during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 campaigns. He finished No.2 among the school's all-time career scoring leaders with 1,331 points, being named MVP of the Bay Valley Athletic League (BVAL) as both a junior and senior.

During his final prep season, Ned averaged 21.3 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game, scoring a school-record 681 points while leading HHS to a 29-3 record and undefeated in BVAL play. The Patriots captured the North Coast Section Division I championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NorCal Tournament.

Ned exploded for 37 points in a 100-98 double overtime victory over Dublin High in the semifinals of the North Coast Section, scoring the winning points on a pair of free throws with 7.4 seconds left in the second extra period. He scored 27 points in a 71-66 win over Clayton Valley Charter School in the sectional championship contest.

As a high school junior, Ned helped HHS win the BVAL title, advance to the semifinals of the North Coast Section and reach the NorCal Tournament semifinals.

Ned joins a talented newcomer class for the 2022-23 season that includes previously announced program additions forward Liam Clark (Clark College) and guard Matthew Mayes (West LA College). The Vikings roster is bolstered by University of Portland transfer and Bellingham native Wyatt Watson, Juanita High School product Jordan Tate and Mariner High School guard Tijan Saine.
