Vikings Earn Road Sweep at Western Oregon

WWU wins third consecutive match to reach 10-win mark in conference play

MONMOUTH, Ore. – Led by a 14-kill, 14-dig double-double by outside hitter Delaney Speer, the youthful Western Washington University volleyball team went on the road and recorded a 3-0 sweep over Western Oregon University Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.

The Vikings reached the 10-win mark in GNAC play improving to 10-5 in league play with their third consecutive victory, gaining sole possession of third place in the conference standings. WOU dropped to 9-14 overall and 3-12 in GNAC play.

Speer hit at a .414 clip while recording her sixth double-double of the season, also tallying two blocks for a team-high 15.5 points. The 14 kills were a single-match career-high. Sophomore outside hitter Devyn Oestreich led all players with 19 digs, also recoding eight kills and three aces for 11.0 points. Redshirt freshman middle Emily Vossenkuhl contributed eight kills on a .538 hitting percentage and junior opposite Gabby Kepley continued her late-season surge with eight kills and 9.0 total points. Sophomore middle Karli Tri added seven kills and a pair of blocks.

"This was great offensive effort tonight for the entire team," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "Delaney (Speer) was especially potent and efficient tonight, hitting a variety of shots. Devyn (Oestreich) and Gabby (Kepley) were also effective from the pins and our middles continue to balance out our attack. Devyn and Delaney were also great from the defensive end which complimented our tough serving. I am very proud of the all-around team effort."

WWU combined to hit .293 in the match and tallied eight service aces.

Western Oregon was led by 10 kills from Madison Hornback and seven kills by Sarah Strus.
