MONMOUTH, Ore. – The No. 8 nationally-ranked Western Washington University women's basketball team used a dominating third-quarter and second-half performance to record an 87-58 road victory over Western Oregon on Thursday in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Vikings pulled away from a 36-30 halftime lead, out-scoring the Wolves 21-3 in the third quarter and 51-28 in the second half for the 29-point victory. The Vikings made 32 field goals in the game, shooting 58.2-percent (32-for-55), while tallying a season-high-tying 31 assists to tie for the 5th-most in a game during the NCAA era (since 1998-99). Walling, senior guard Mollie Olson and junior guard Stephanie Peterson led the way with six assists each. WWU was 10-for-25 (40.0%) from three-point range and made 13-of-18 free throws (72.2%).
WWU trailed early 11-4 in the first quarter, but used a 13-0 run to take control and never relinquished the lead the rest of the game. The Vikings led for nearly 35 minutes of the 40-minute game.
WOU received a pair of 17-point efforts from Cali McClave and Princy Paaluhi-Caulk. Ana McClave grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.
WWU (19-2, 13-1 GNAC) remains on the road closing out the away portion of the regular-season schedule at Saint Martin's on Saturday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:15 pm.
