BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head women's basketball coach
Carmen Dolfo has officially announced the addition of guard
Demi Dykstra after signing a National Letter of Intent in the fall.
Dykstra, a 5-8 guard out of Lynden Christian, will join the Vikings in the fall for the 2023-24 season. The multi-sport star was a four-year varsity letterwinner for the Lyncs in basketball appearing in 95 career games while being part of a program that went 86-9.
During her senior season in 2022-23, Dykstra recorded 142 assists to rank third in program single-season history. She averaged 9.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 2.3 steals per game while helping LC to the state 1A championship game. Her senior season was capped by being selected Second Team All-State and a repeat First Team All Northwest Conference.
"I am very excited to continue my basketball career with such a successful program and one that I have been around most of my life," said Dykstra.
Dykstra was part of state championship teams as a freshman in 2020 and as a junior in 2022. She also starred for the Lynden Christian soccer team that earned runner-up honors during the 2022 state tournament, leading the team with 18 goals and 16 assists.
"We are so excited that Demi has decided to part of our Viking family," said Dolfo. "She comes from and outstanding high school program that knows how to work hard and how to win! Demi will bring that to our program. Her ceiling is incredibly high and we are so excited to get her on the court with us."
She is the latest in a long line of Dykstra family members that are part of the WWU Athletics family. Her mother, Kelly, played basketball for the Vikings in the early 2000s and father, Greg, was a standout receiver on the WWU football team. Demi will join her cousin,
Riley Dykstra, on the current roster and just miss playing with another cousin,
Avery Dykstra, who completed her last season at WWU this winter.
