BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team has added transfer forward
Louis Grante-Halliday from Seattle University as the next addition to the 2023-24 recruiting class.
WWU head coach
Tony Dominguez announced the second player for the recruiting class that will debut for the Vikings during the 2023-24 season.
Grante-Halliday, a native of London, England, played high school basketball at Eastside Catholic in Sammamish. The 6-7 forward was named the team MVP and was a Second Team All-Metro selection during his senior season.
"We are very pumped about Louis joining the squad," said Dominguez. "Louis is a very versatile player with tremendous basketball IQ. His size gives him the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. As a player raised in England, he has that European game of skill and IQ that we thought fit our team well. Louis also possesses good strength to help defend multiple positions. We are thrilled to have him join our program and he should have a great career as a Viking."
Grante-Halliday played two seasons at Eastside Catholic, averaging 18 points and eight rebounds per game. During his senior season at EC in 2021-22 he scored 550 points, including a game where he recorded 23 rebounds.
He joins Western as a transfer from Seattle U, where he utilized his redshirt eligibility in the 2022-23 season. Grante-Halliday will have four years of eligibility remaining when he arrives on campus.
'I'm looking forward to joining a notorious program like Western Washington," said Grante-Halliday. "The coaches and players were very welcoming on my visit, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. I can't wait to have a fresh start and get to work with my new teammates this fall. Go Viks."
Currently, Grante-Halliday is with the Great Britain National Team as part of a 24-player training camp for the U-20 team leading up to the FIBA European Youth Championships that will be played in early July.
Heading into his 12th season as head coach of the Vikings and 29th overall at Western, Dominguez has announced two signings so far this summer that will debut in 2023-23 for the Vikings. The recruiting class opened with the signing of guard
Will Wilson out of Mt. Hood Community College. Additional signings will be announced in the coming weeks and the 2023-24 schedule will be finalized in July.
