BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University men's basketball program didn't have to look very far down the road for the next addition to the roster with guard
Grant Kepley out of Sehome High School set to join the Vikings as a freshman in 2023-24.
Western Washington Men's basketball coach
Tony Dominguez announced the Sehome High School standout has signed a National Letter of Intent.
Kepley, a versatile 6-4 guard, was named to the 2A Second Team All-State following his senior season at Sehome as well as collecting his second All-Northwest Conference selection.
"I am personally very excited about Grant's commitment to WWU," said Dominguez. "His ability combined with his strong family ties to WWU make him a tremendous addition to the program. Grant is very versatile and can defend and play multiple positions. His intense grit on the court also makes him a tremendous competitor. I have known Grant for many years and believe in his abilities, toughness and overall leadership. He will add a lot to our program and I am excited to see his growth over the next four years as a Viking."
Kepley averaged 17 points, six assists and five rebounds per game with the Mariners while also serving as one of their top defenders. During the 2023 Washington interscholastic Basketball Showcase Kepley scored 12 points in the Class 2A vs. Class 1A All-Star Game.
Former WWU men's basketball head coach and current Sehome head coach Brad Jackson said of Kepley, "Grant is certainly one of the top players in the league. He plays his best in the toughest games and always plays well when matched against the other team's best player. His play is evident at both ends of the floor as he is always assigned the toughest cover as well. Grant is a three-level scorer on offense and is an excellent rebounder. He is a fierce competitor and will be a fine college player."
Kepley is a native of Bellingham and joins his older sister Gabby (Volleyball), mother Chris (Basketball) and father Dale (soccer) in the long list of Kepley family members who have played at WWU, including older brother Garrison who was a member of the basketball program for two years. He is also the nephew of longtime Western women's basketball coach Carmen Dolfo.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity to stay close to home and be part of a great program." Said Kepley. "Go Viks!"
Heading into his 12th season as head coach of the Vikings and 29th overall at Western, Dominguez has announced three signings so far this summer that will debut in 2023-23 for the Vikings. The recruiting class opened with the signing of guard
Will Wilson out of Mt. Hood Community College and forward
Louis Grante-Halliday from Seattle University. Additional signings will be announced in the coming weeks and the 2023-24 schedule will be finalized in July.
