Steph Peterson Earns GNAC Weekly Award

Peterson averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 5.5 steals per game last week

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University senior guard Steph Peterson has been selected as the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played January 22-28.
 
Peterson (Broomfield, CO) had an all-around solid week while helping lead the Vikings to wins over Seattle Pacific and No. 9 Montana State Billings. Peterson averaged 12.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 5.5 steals and 2.0 blocked shots per game in the two games while shooting 43.8-percent (7-for-16). The point guard handled the ball well with a 3.7 assist-to-turnover ratio (11 assists, 3 turnovers) and guided the Vikings offense to a 74.5 points per game average.
 
In WWU's 73-61 win over Seattle Pacific Peterson notched her first double-double as a Viking with 15 points and 10 rebounds. She matched her all-around effort with another near double-double with 10 points, nine rebounds, six assists, six steals and a blocked shot in the 76-68 win over No. 9 Montana State Billings.
 
For the season Peterson has started all 19 games for the nationally-ranked Vikings, with an overall 16-3 record and tied for 1st place in the GNAC. Peterson is averaging 7.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game and is the league leader with 4.3 assists and 2.6 steals per game. She is in her second season at WWU after transferring from Cameron University (Lawton, OK) and is now just 13 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point mark for her collegiate career.
 
Peterson is the third Viking to earn the GNAC Player of the Week honor this season joining the two awards by senior forward Brooke Walling (Nov. 6-12 & Dec. 11-19) and junior guard Riley Dykstra (Jan. 8-14).
 
The Vikings (16-3, 8-1 GNAC) remain at home this week closing out a four-game homestand hosting Alaska Fairbanks on Thursday and Alaska Anchorage on Saturday, with both conference games featuring a 7 pm tip-off on WECU Court in Carver Gym.
