NAMPA, Idaho – The Western Washington University volleyball team continued its winning ways with a 3-0 sweep over Northwest Nazarene Thursday afternoon in the Johnson Sports Center.
WWU evened its season record at 7-7 overall by winning for the sixth time in the last seven matches and stands at 6-2 in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play. Set scores were 25-18, 25-20, 25-20 in favor of the Vikings, who beat the Nighthawks for the 13th consecutive time.
Sophomore outside hitter Delaney Speer led the Vikings with a 12-kill, 15-dig double-double, adding in a pair of blocks for a team-high 14.0 points. Junior outside hitter Devyn Oestreich added a 11-kill, 11-dig double-double and junior middle Asia Stewart made her first start of the season recording seven kills and five blocks. Sophomore middle Emily Vossenkuhl had another standout match with eight kills on a .538 hitting percentage.
The setter combination of Caroline Hansen (20 assists, 4 digs, 1 ace) and Adele Holland (18 assists, 7 digs, 1 ace) helped run an efficient offense with a .244 hitting percentage, the third-highest team mark of the season.
Northwest Nazarene (6-10, 3-5 GNAC) was led by a 10-kill, 11-dig double-double from Maren Machado and 13 digs from Kayci Spray.
The Vikings (7-7, 6-2 GNAC) remain on the road taking on Central Washington in Ellensburg on Saturday first serve scheduled for 7 pm in Nicholson Pavilion. The game will stream live on YouTube with a direct link available at WWUVikings.com/Live.

The Vikings now lead the all-time series 48-9 in the 57 head-to-head meetings dating back to 1991. The WWU Volleyball program is in its 54th season as a varsity intercollegiate sport in 2024, rising to an elite level by advancing to the NCAA Division II Championships in 10 of the last 11 seasons and 16 of the last 22 dating back to the 2001 season. The program has recorded 1,030 all-time wins (1031-599-7). The winner of 11 Great Northwest Athletic Conference, the Vikings have four of the last seven GNAC titles with a 19-1 record in 2017, perfect 20-0 mark in 2018, an 18-2 league record in 2019 and clinched the four-peat with a 17-1 record in 2021. Led by 25th-year head coach Diane Flick-Williams (525-144) the Vikings have posted a 276-74 record over the last 13 seasons and played in the NCAA II West Region championship match five out of the last eight seasons, winning titles in 2015, 2018 and 2021 (also 2007). WWU played for the NCAA II national championship in 2007 and 2018, both national runner-up finishes, and have advanced to the NCAA Final Four in three of the past eight seasons (2015, 2018, 2021).
