LACEY, Wash. – Playing its first true road match of the season, the Western Washington University volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory over Saint Martin's University Thursday night in Marcus Pavilion.
The Vikings won their third consecutive conference match to improve to 4-6 overall and 3-1 in GNAC play. WWU defeated SMU by set scores of 25-17, 29-27, 25-23.
Western received a balanced team effort with Olympia native Devyn Oestreich leading the team with 11.5 points on eight kills three aces, a block assist and team-high 20 digs. Redshirt freshman middle Hayli Tri recorded nine kills on a .389 attack percentage and led the Vikings with four block assists. Sophomore middle Emily Vossenkuhlwas also effective with eight kills on a .583 hitting percentage.
Continuing her all-around play during the 2024 season, sophomore outside hitter Delaney Speer tallied her third double-double of the season with 10 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore libero Finnley Claeys was the third Viking recording double-digits in digs with 15.
"Tonight was a great team effort as each player contributed at different times when we needed it," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "I thought our middles really set the tone in the first set and our setters did a great job finding them. We had to hunker down on the defensive end against a good Saint Martin's offense, and Devyn (Oestreich) and Finnley (Claeys) lead that charge."
Saint Martin's (4-9, 2-3 GNAC) was led by nine kills and five blocks (12.0 points) by Kingsley Mason and 10 kills by Zoey Crimin.
