ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Western Washington University women's basketball team completed a two-win weekend at the CWU Thanksgiving Tournament defeating Westminster University 63-50 Saturday afternoon in Nicholson Pavilion.
The Vikings improved to 4-3 on the season with their third consecutive victory with the 13-point victory.
WWU scored the first six points of the game and never trailed in the contest to go 2-0 in the tournament hosted by Central Washington University. The Vikings defeated Biola 61-51 Friday to open the tournament.
Junior forward Alyson Deaver led the Vikings with 23 points on 8-for-12 shooting from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 performance from the free throw line. Deaver added five rebounds, one assist and one steal. Senior guard Olivia Wikstrom fell just short of a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds and junior guard Mason Oberg also scored in double-digits with 10 points and five assists.
Westminster (1-6) was led by 17 points by Teuila Nawahine and nine points and 11 rebounds from Maunayia Harrigfeld.
The Vikings (4-3) return to Bellingham to open GNAC play next week hosting nationally-ranked Montana State Billings on Thursday and Seattle Pacific on Saturday in Carver Gym, with both games featuring a 7 pm tip-off on WECU Court. GNAC Basketball Championships – March 6-8 in Lacey, WA (Marcus Pavilion)

One of the premier basketball programs in NCAA Division II, recording a 20-win season in 11 of the last 14 full seasons, and 38 times in the 53-year history of the program. WWU has 24 seasons of 20 or more wins under head coach Carmen Dolfo, who is the winningest coach of any sport at WWU and ranks among Division II active and all-time coaching leaders in wins with 695, winning percentage and 20-win seasons. The Vikings have reached the NCAA II Tournament in 20 of 25 possible seasons at the Division II level with three trips to the Elite Eight (last in 2022) and played in the 2022 national championship game. The program has 1,127 all-time wins in the 53-year history of the program, and according to available records, is one of less than 20 women's college basketball team across all divisions and levels to reach the 1,000-victory milestone.
