BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University head women's basketball coach
Carmen Dolfo announced Monday that former WWU standout
Katrina Gimmaka will be joining the program as an assistant coach.
Gimmaka (pronouned Jamaica) started her new role on July 1, taking over for assistant coach
Bobbi Westendorf who accepted the head coach position at Whatcom Community College.
"We are excited to have Katrina join our coaching staff. Her great attitude, tremendous work ethic and basketball background in our program make her the perfect fit," said Dolfo. "During her playing career Katrina was a tireless worker and always had a positive attitude, and we look forward to her bringing her high energy to the program."
Over a five-year playing career as a Viking, Gimmaka played in 125 games (42 starts) to rank third in program history for games played. An elite scorer from mid-range and the paint, Gimmaka scored 776 career points and her career shooting percentage of .497 ranks in the programs top-25 all-time.
In her Senior Season in 2022-23 Gimmaka was an All-GNAC selection and shot 58.0% from the field, the 10th-highest mark in single-season program history. The Everson native helped lead the Vikings to the GNAC regular season title with the in 2021-2022 and 2022-23 as well as being a member of the 2021-22 squad that won the West Region title and finished as National Runners-Up.
Gimmaka graduated from WWU in 2023 with a degree in Kinesiology.
"This is a great opportunity for me to come back to Western and start my coaching journey with Carmen and Stacey," said Gimmaka. "I learned so much as a student-athlete during my five years at Western and looking forward to passing that on to the next generation of Vikings."

Carmen Dolfo (34th season) and Head Assistant Coach
Stacey Turrell (13th season). Dolfo and Turrell are also former Western players combining for an all-alum coaching staff.
