FAIRBANKS, Alaska – The Western Washington University women's basketball team turned in another dominating defensive performance to record a 67-37 road victory over Alaska Fairbanks Thursday evening in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
The Vikings improved to 10-6 overall and kept hold of third place in the GNAC at 5-2 with the 30-point road victory. WWU out-scored UAF 36-12 in the second half, including 18-0 in the third quarter.
Western held the Nanooks to 25.4-percent shooting for the game (15-for-59) and limited an opponent to fewer than 40 points for the second time this season. The 18-0 scoreline in the third quarter marked the first time WWU has shut out an opponent in a quarter since the four-quarter format was adopted in 2015-16.
The Vikings balanced offense featured five players scoring in double-digits and six players with at least nine points. Senior guard Olivia Wikstrom recorded her GNAC-leading sixth double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds on 5-for-9 shooting.
Sophomore forward Jadyn Watts had 11 points on 5-for-8 shooting with six rebounds, sophomore guard Demi Dykstra contributed 10 points and had two blocked shots and senior guard Maddy Grandbois totaled 10 points on 3-for-5 shooting. Sophomore guard Libby Stump made her Viking debut coming off a knee injury after transferring from the University of Montana, scoring 10 points in 19 minutes of action. Junior forward Alyson Deaver added nine points and seven rebounds.
UAF (5-9, 0-6 GNAC) as led by 12 points by Destiny Reimers on 5-for-17 shooting.

WWU pulled away from a 31-25 lead at halftime shutting out UAF 18-0 in the third quarter and went on to out-score UAF 36-12 in the final 20 minutes of the game. The Vikings defense held the Nanooks to 0-for-16 shooting in the scoreless third quarter.

GNAC Basketball Championships – March 6-8 in Lacey, WA (Marcus Pavilion)

One of the premier basketball programs in NCAA Division II, recording a 20-win season in 11 of the last 14 full seasons, and 38 times in the 53-year history of the program. WWU has 24 seasons of 20 or more wins under head coach Carmen Dolfo, who is the winningest coach of any sport at WWU and ranks among Division II active and all-time coaching leaders in wins with 701, winning percentage and 20-win seasons. The Vikings have reached the NCAA II Tournament in 20 of 25 possible seasons at the Division II level with three trips to the Elite Eight (last in 2022) and played in the 2022 national championship game. The program has 1,133 all-time wins in the 53-year history of the program, and according to available records, is one of less than 20 women's college basketball team across all divisions and levels to reach the 1,000-victory milestone.
