MONMOUTH, Ore. – The No. 19 nationally ranked Western Washington University volleyball team opened its GNAC road trip with a three-set sweep over Western Oregon University Thursday evening.
WWU defeated WOU 27-25, 25-20, 25-21 to extend its winning streak to 11 consecutive matches, improving to 11-1 overall and remaining perfect in conference play through the first five matches. The Vikings are tied atop the GNAC standings in the third week of conference play matching the 5-0 start by Alaska Fairbanks.
Senior outside hitter Abby May led the Vikings with 14.0 total points, contributing a team-high 12 kills on a .667 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Devyn Oestreich added 11 kills and four blocks and junior outside hitter Delaney Speer contributed seven kills and eight digs.
WWU held a 11.0-to-5.0 advantage in blocks, with freshman middle Teya Zaddack tallying three blocks.
"It was another great effort by our team picking up a good road victory," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "Abby May was on fire tonight with such great vision and a wide-array of shots."
The Vikings take their 11-match winning streak to Saint Martin's on Saturday facing the Saints at 1 pm inside Marcus Pavilion in Lacey.
