BILLINGS, Mont. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team went on the road and earned a 4-0 shutout victory over Montana State Billings Thursday night in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play.
WWU improved to 4-1-3 overall, stretching its unbeaten streak to five consecutive games (4-0-1), while moving to 2-0-1 in GNAC games. Over the last 18 games in conferenced play the Vikings are undefeated at 14-0-4 since the end of the 2023 season.
The Vikings went up in the 24th minute on a three-person combination between Morgan Manalili, Reece Walker and Claire Potter. Manalili cut inside after streaking down the sideline sending a threaded right-footed cross into the box. Walker had a back-heal touch to set up Potter inside the 18-yard box with her right-footed shot beating the keeper 1v1 inside the far post.
WWU doubled its lead in the 37th minute off corner delivered by Abby Succi into the mixer. Sophomore midfielder Layne Davis took an initial shot that was blocked, and followed with a shot from close quarter into the back of the net for her first career goal.
The Vikings tacked on an insurance goal just over nine minutes into the second half when sophomore Emily Holdridge connected on a 22-yard shot that tucked under the crossbar for her third goal of the season.
Manalili and Potter connected again in the 64th minute off a corner by Manalili, headed home in front of the goal by Potter to record her first career brace in her 75th career game.
"We received contributions throughout the entire lineup tonight," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "It was a real team win."
The Vikings held a decisive 24-3 advantage in total shots and led 8-0 in shots on goal and 10-0 in corner kicks.
MSUB dropped to 2-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in GNAC play. WWU is 32-3-2 all-time vs. the Yellowjackets with a current 24-game winning streak dating back to the 2012 season.
The Vikings (4-1-3, 2-0-1 GNAC) remain on the road in GNAC play taking on rival Seattle Pacific on Saturday with kickoff set for 7 pm at Interbay Stadium. WWU is back at Harrington Field for three consecutive conference games beginning October 9 hosting Western Oregon. The complete 2025 schedule can be viewed online via wwuvikings.com/25_WSOC.
