No. 11 Vikings Play WOU to Scoreless Draw

WWU remains unbeaten in last 12 games with 10-0-2 record and is in first place in the GNAC

MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Washington University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in GNAC play following Saturday's scoreless draw on the road against Western Oregon University.

WWU held a dominating 12-2 advantage in shots and held WOU without a shot on goal, but both teams were unable to find the back of the net in the GNAC contest held at WOU Soccer Field.

The No. 11 nationally ranked Vikings remain at the top of the GNAC standings with 26 points at 8-0-2 in conference play (10-1-4 overall). WWU extended its unbeaten streak to 12 consecutive games, going 10-0-2 during this stretch to tie for the 11th-longest undefeated streak in program history. The Vikings fourth tie of the season snapped a seven-game winning streak.

"We put in a solid defensive performance tonight. I enjoyed how we competed," said WWU head coach Travis Connell. "We created some quality chances, but western Oregon had answer for every one of those attacking moments."

WWU defeated WOU 3-0 in Bellingham on October 9 when the Wolves were ranked No. 12 in the nation.

The Vikings defense recorded the seventh shutout of the season, with senior defenders Kascia Muscutt, Emily Rice and Asia Hardin, junior defender Olivia Connell, junior midfielder Mie Cairns and senior midfielder Morgan Manalili all logging the full 90 minutes. Manalili led WWU with three shots and junior midfielder Reese Walker had two shots.

WOU (9-3-3, 6-2-2 GNAC) received six saves from goalkeeper Bella Lopez and a team save in the 79th minute off a shot by Cairns.

The GNAC match was delayed in the 56th minute by a lightning delay that lasted 45 minutes.
