BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The No. 17 nationally ranked Western Washington University volleyball team earned a three-set sweep over visiting Saint Martin's University Thursday evening on Pink Night in Carver Gym.
The Vikings won their third consecutive match to improve to 16-3 overall and remain in a tie for first place with Simon Fraser in the GNAC standings following the 25-19, 25-23, 25-20 victory over the Saints on WECU Court.
WWU avenged a 3-0 loss earlier in the season to Saint Martin's on October 4 in Lacey, handling the Saints to improve to 7-1 in Carver Gym this season.
"The match was definitely a grind, and I thought each person made a key play at a key time," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "I'm really glad we were able to honor our guest coach Dotti Goldsmith with a win to pad her record."
Senior outside hitter Devyn Oestreich led the Vikings with a 14-kill, 17-dig double-double while recording a .343 hitting percentage. The senior also had three service aces and one solo block to finish with 18.0 points. The GNAC leader in kills per set continues to inch towards career milestones with 993 digs and 836 kills. Junior Delaney Speer added 13 kills, eight digs, two service aces and three block assists for 16.5 points.
"Devyn and Delaney had the full tool bag of shots going, and Abby and Violet (Burchak) were taking good swings from the other pin," added Flick-Williams. "Voss came with a big net game today, highlighted by her big blocking moves. Finnley was very scrappy on defense but her out of system setting was very on point. Great team victory."
Junior middle Emily Vossenkuhl contributed seven kills and six blocks and senior opposite Abby May recorded eight kills on a .412 attack percentage. The setter duo of junior Caroline Hansen (24 assists) and Adele Holland (20 assists) led the team to a .256 hitting percentage. Junior libero Finnley Claeys contributed 16 digs.
Saint Martin's (11-9, 4-8 GNAC) was led by eight kills from Emily Garten and eight total blocks by Hanna Ligons.

The Vikings hosted their annual Pink Night to unite and raise awareness in the fight against breast cancer. Western volleyball wore special jerseys with pink numbers and letters that were donated by Lynda Goodrich and Sara Penley. Prior to the match the evening celebrated Dorothy Goldsmith, affectionately known as "Dotti," a long-time staff member of the Athletics Department who retired in 2014. Dotti's husband Chris, former Western Director of Public Information and Director of Alumni Relations, passed away in June 2023. Dotti is a two-time breast cancer survivor. She was first diagnosed at age 24, and then again at age 45. She is now 76.
