LANGLEY, B.C. – The Western Washington University men's basketball team got off to a great start against Cal State San Bernadino, but dropped its non-conference game Saturday against the Coyotes 91-78 at the D2 Canadian Tip-Off Classic.
The Vikings dropped to 0-2 on the season with the 13-point loss to against the West Region foes from Southern California.
Redshirt freshman Anthony Canales led the Vikings with 19 points on nearly perfect 7-for-8 shooting from the floor and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Junior transfer Nehemiah Pollard added 14 points and junior guard Malachi Miller tallied 11 points on 5-for-9 shooting.
The Vikings built an 11-point lead at 32-21 with 8:21 remaining in the first half, but CSUSB finished the first half on a hot streak to grab a 45-44 lead. The game was tied 63-63 with 10:20 remaining after a pair of Canales free throws and the Vikings grabbed a 69-68 lead following a 6-0 run with all points scored by sophomore Trevor White.
The Coyotes finished the game on a 23-9 run to pull away from the Vikings for their first win of the season.
Gavin Davis finished with a game-high 24 points on 10-for-16 shooting.
