BELLINGHAM, Wash. – Western Washington University sophomore guard
Aidan Rice has been selected as the GNAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games played November 10-16.
Rice helped lead the Vikings to a pair of wins in the West Region Tip-Off Challenge, defeating Cal Poly Humboldt (83-71) and San Francisco State (87-62).
The sophomore guard averaged 19.0 points per game while filling the stat sheet with 12 assists, 10 rebounds and seven steals.
In the win over Cal Poly Humboldt he had 22 points in 38 minutes while recording five rebounds, five steals and five assists. Against SFSU he turned in 16 points in 34 minutes with seven assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
In the two games he combined to shoot 54.5-percent from the field (12-for-22) and was 7-for-13 from three-point range.
"I am excited to watch Aidan grow as a player and leader for our team," said WWU head coach
Tony Dominguez. "Over the weekend I felt like Aidan took a big step in that direction of leadership and productivity. He played both sides of the ball and kept his emotions in check. His temperament was a real catalyst."
For the season Rice is averaging 16.6 points and 3.4 assists per game. The Vikings (3-2) remain on the road this week playing at Chaminade and Hawai'i Pacific.
