Vikings Deliver Senior Night Victory Over NNU

WWU defeats Northwest Nazarene in four sets 25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-14

BELLINGHAM, Wash. – The Western Washington University volleyball team closed out the regular season with a Senior Night victory over Northwest Nazarene in Carver Gym.

 

The No. 14 nationally ranked Vikings improved to 19-6 overall and finished GNAC play at 13-5 with the 25-18, 25-16, 19-25, 25-14 victory over the Nighthawks on WECU Court. Four teams finished in a tie for first place in the GNAC standings earning co-champion status, with the Vikings one game back.

 

WWU celebrated seniors Adele Holland, Devyn Oestreich, Janelle Grant and Abby Maywith the Senior Night win playing their final match in Carver Gym.

 

Oestreich led the Vikings with a 13-kill, 16-dig double-double (and 4 aces), crossing the 900-kill mark for her career. In 25 matches this season Oestreich has recorded 17 double-doubles and leads the conference averaging 3.90 kills per set. Junior outside hitter Delaney Speer tallied her 15th double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Junior middle Emily Vossenkuhl finished with eight kills and a career-high-tying nine blocks.

 

Grant served the Vikings first two points in the opening set and the victory-clinching point in the fourth set, taking the court for the first time since early October.

 

"This was a great senior night and a great way to honor some very special people," said WWU head coach Diane Flick-Williams. "The match mirrored their journey here…they started the match together and they finished the match together. I'm so very proud of them!"

 

Junior libero Finnley Claeys recorded a match-high 17 digs and Holland paced the offense with 21 assists. Junior setter Caroline Hansen tallied a 16-assist, 10-dig double-double.

 

NNU (6-19, 5-13) was led by 13 kills and 16 digs by Abby Black.
